For our class assignment, we had to read My Freshman by Rebekah Nathan. This story is about a cultural anthropologist who was also a professor. As a cultural anthropologist, she got to experience so many diverse cultures and was able to study them living oversees. Rebekah taught at a university for fifteen years and it was confusing because she didn't understand why students seemed to be lacking in their education and their motivation to learn. She thought students were a lot more rude and did not have much ambition. For me, I think all students get to that point sometime where they have no motivation to do anything. I think it's just laziness that gets to them and many students feel like if they pass that'll do.

The first sentence, "Ten years ago, I would never have expected to be writing a book about college life at AnyU." Reading this story further and then going back to the first sentence it's crazy how things change. She was a professor for fifteen years but then she decided to take on college life and experience that. She did everything a normal college student would like live in the dorms, have a meal plan, and attend tutoring and tuition information sessions. She took on experiencing college life pretty seriously like she even stood in line waiting to get her room key just as any other child there would. I can relate to these experiences Rebekah went through. I've attended information sessions and I live on campus so I do have a meal plan and roommates.

I think Dr. Nathan took on this role seriously by experiencing everything a college kid would. It was unfortunate how she got cited within forty hours. But that's like college life. Unexpected things can happen and they might not be your ideal situation. Overall, Dr. Nathan didn't have to do the whole college experience. But she was so passionate about her work that she did. Each college students experiences things in a different way. We all won't have the same experience and Dr. Nathan says that statement which is so true.
